Chronic Disease Treatments
Chronic disease is any human ailment that is long-lasting or recurring in its effects or a disorder that lasts for more than a year. The word chronic is usually used when the case of the illness lasts for over three years. The onset of the ailment is normally sudden and intense and the patient experiences persistent discomfort for a considerable time.
Some common types of chronic diseases
are Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, coronary heart disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, kidney disease, irritable bowel syndrome, acne, high blood pressure, and several others. Some of these diseases have symptoms that are similar to those of other minor illnesses. However, if the cause of the ailment is found to be a chronic disease, it is necessary to find an appropriate cure that lasts the rest of the patient’s life. For this reason, many researchers have developed various methods to treat these types of ailments.
Currently, there are several ways to treat chronic diseases
through Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine prescribes various medicines for various conditions. These medicines are used to cure or alleviate the ill effects of the ailment. Ayurvedic doctors use herbs, vitamins, minerals, and different oils to cure the patient of his chronic diseases. This type of treatment is referred to as Detoxification.
One of the most common methods of treatment
is the detoxification procedure. Through this procedure, excess toxins and fat which are accumulated in the body are removed through the process of flushing out from the body. There are some specific techniques used in detoxification procedures for different kinds of chronic diseases. To treat high blood pressure, an Ayurvedic physician may prescribe medicines such as Vat-Gajankush-Ras, Shrung-Bhasma, and Bruhat-Vat-Chintamani.
For lung and heart ailments
Ayurvedic physicians prescribe medicines such as Gokshuradi-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Mandur, Praval-Panchamrut-Ras, and Chandraprabha-Vati. They also prescribe medicines to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the body. If you suffer from excessive alcohol consumption, a chronic disease treatment known as Chandan (Glycyrrhiza glabra) may be prescribed by an Ayurvedic physician to reduce excessive fat deposits in the body.
To prevent excessive alcohol consumption
medicines such as Arogya-Vardhini, Kanchnaar-Guggulu, Sharpunkha (Tephrosia purpuria), Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa), Saraiva (Hemidesmus indicus), Patha ( Cissampelos pareira), and Musta (Cyperus rotundus) can be used. Medicines which act on the ‘Rakta’ dhatu (tissue) of the body can be very useful for this purpose. These medicines include Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Kutki, Triphala (Three fruits), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Trikatu (Three pungent herbs), and Kutaj (Holarrhina antidysentrica). If your chronic diseases are caused by excessive alcohol intake, you should start your treatment as early as possible.
